Nepal and the United States of America held the Sixth Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council Meeting on May 19, 2023, in Kathmandu. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr Madhu Kumar Marasini, Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and Mr Brendan Lynch, Acting Assistant United States Trade Representative for South and Central Asia.

A separate meeting of US TIFA delegates with Nepal’s Private Sector representing FNCCI, CNI, NCC and various Associations was held on the evening of May 19, 2023. On behalf of NUSACCI, Kiran P. Saakha, President attended the meeting. Among others, major issues raised during the meeting are:
i) the Role of the private sector in the effective implementation of the compensation law for making the investment climate more attractive; ii) On exploring the possibility of extending trade capacity-building support to Nepal, the private sector has not been able to witness any benefits out of this; iii) on GON requests to add more products in the Trade Preference Program and enhance trade capacity building support. But the result is yet to be noticed; iv) Regarding trade facilitation NUSACCI requested for support in participating trade shows, single country show, road shows and trade delegation to the USA.
