On 27 th September 2022, NUSACCI organized a meeting at NUSACCI Secretariat with Mr.John Cabeca, US Intellectual Property Counselor for South Asia, United States Trademark and Patent Office and Ms. Shilpi Jha, Senior Commercial Specialist & Policy Lead, South Asia, US Embassy-Delhi. On behalf of NUSACCI, Kiran P. Saakha, President; Birendra Rajkarnicar,Vice President; Prof. Dr. Gandhi Pandit, General Secretary; Sanjai Agrawal, Treasurer; and executive members Brindaban Man Pradhanang, Rajani Rana, Sunil Rajbhandhari and Pashupati Dev Pandey attended the meeting. The main purpose of the organizing a meeting was to NUSACCI Executive Board members interaction with USTPO team on IPR,compensation law and widespread use of counterfeited label. As Nepal is in nascent state and enforcement climate is weak. The absense of strong compensation law, American Investment is not coming to Nepal and investment in FDI the risk is very high. Three targets need to be set i) enforcing GON; ii) Product and iii) Consumer. Regarding the extensive use of counterfeited label in Nepali garments as this issue need to be bring out in the fora by organizing a workshop involving all stakeholders, GON, in cooperation an active
participation of Nepal Garment Association. USTPO has also shown keen interest to organize workshop/seminar in collaboration with NUSACCI on the issues of IPR, Compensation Law and Counterfeited Label. However, it is subject to American Government funding approval.
